Anon Binaire began out of the desire to elevate subversive aesthetics and cultures to the level of craftsmanship and detail seen in the historic world of traditional luxury. Our brand reflects the technology of language and how we use it to express ourselves to one another in subcultures. The binary code has origins in the punch cards developed for looms during the industrial age, the 1s and 0s analogous to over and under in the weaving of textiles. Women who were previously textile workers were tasked to hand weave RAM for NASA’s Apollo Missions. Now we project this further by honoring the tradition of detail oriented craftsmanship with a new creative lens brought upon by the information age, once again marrying innovation and fashion.

Nothing is ever new.

With Anon Binaire’s first 3 collections, classic menswear tailoring techniques are used to merge the body with a silhouette appropriate of womenswear.

Why create that which already exists?

The Anon Binaire muse is strong, creative, and ahead of the curve. She is the bleeding edge of contemporary self expression.

SamJ, born in 1998, is a multidisciplinary artist and designer that pushes the boundaries of how one can interact with the world of technology and culture. Using their body at the forefront of their work, SamJ maintains a strong visual identity that has translated into the fashion world with Anon Binaire. Through Anon Binaire, their work continues to invite new communities to engage with the poignant message of liberation and personal expression.

With a BFA in Graphic Design, SamJ started their practice as an artist in 2020 by exploring digital identity by selling their work as an NFT shortly after moving to Amsterdam. Since then, they have been exploring gender, performance, identity, and conscious expression through the lens of digital media and posthumanism.

Their artworks have been featured/collected by Gucci, Givenchy, Christie’s, ICA Miami, Het Nieuwe Instituut, Scope, Vogue, Elle, WWD, Whitehot Magazine, Museum of Crypto Art, and other prominent institutions.

The possibility to share, buy, and sell digital art through the innovative new blockchain technology provided an asymmetric opportunity to fresh talent in communities previously overlooked by the world of art and fashion. Many LGBTQ+ artists found a powerful voice by leveraging the NFT markets, where unique perspectives were applauded.
